Xinyi WEN

Xinyi Wen is a PhD candidate at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, University of Cambridge. Her Wellcome-funded PhD project, “The Doctrine of Signatures in Early Modern Medical Practice,” focuses on the transmission and practical application of an early modern European medical idea: natural things that look like human body parts could cure the corresponding body parts. She has several articles published and forthcoming in The British Journal for the History of Science and Journal of the History of Ideas, among others. She also curated the exhibition “The Doctrine of Signatures in Early Modern Science and Medicine,” jointly hosted by the Whipple Museum of the History of Science, Cambridge and Tsinghua University Science Museum, Beijing. She is a dedicated promoter of digital humanities and was selected as Cambridge Data Champion in 2020. In 2023, she was elected a Fellow of the Linnean Society.

I am Xinyue Li 李馨玥. My work in HistSciLib is flexible, including updating our WeChat account, collecting academic resources, etc.
I am a PhD student at the Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of Manchester. I got my BA. and MA. in Chinese History at Nankai University, China. Before turning to history of meteorology, I studied environmental history in modern China. I am interested in history of meteorology, environmental history, modern Chinese history. I like street dance and am learning fencing.

Mingke YU
Designer
As a designer and maker with a background in psychology, I aim to create artifacts that incorporate contextual knowledge and encourage creative ways of use. Currently, I work for an XR company where I design the UX for AR products and games. In my personal practice, I am not limited to any particular medium and enjoy exploring new ways to express ideas or craft experiences.
I was responsible for creating the visual identity of HistSciLib and am currently collaborating with Yang and the team to build the website. Our goal is to provide a portal to showcase our collections, essays, and more, and to explore new ways of learning with HistSciLib.

YANG Xiao

I am a PhD student at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the UKRI Centre for Doctor Training in Biomedical AI and Institute for the Study of Science, Technology and Innovation. I have a multidisciplinary background in mathematics, history of science, biomedical AI and STS. My PhD project is to examine the efforts to scale up Diagnostic AI (Clinical Decision Support System based on Machine Learning).

Yuxin is a PhD student in Science and Technology Studies at Cornell University. Yuxin’s current research focuses on labor and environmental issues in computing infrastructures. She’s curious about people’s alternative technological solutions and imaginaries beyond designers’ intentions. She also has a broad interest in anthropology, human-computer interaction, and media studies.

XU Lu

Xu Lu is a Ph.D. candidate in Literature Studies at Sichuan University, with a focus on situational knowledge, media studies, technology and affect, visual thinking, and video essays. Recently, she has centered her investigation around the concept of 'SURFACE’, as it is embodied in both literary practices and scientific discourses. She contributes to the History of Science Library by gathering, organizing, and crafting academic materials. More broadly, she is deeply concerned about how open-source and digital libraries can serve as research tools and intellectual ethics that enable more scholars to complete their research.

Linjie ZHANG

Linjie ZHANG is a PhD student at the Department of Sociology, University of Edinburgh. Her Chrystal Macmillan Scholar funded project, “Bookstores in Shanghai: The Dawn and Decline of Public Space(1917-2022)”, investigates how bookstores become public spaces and the transformation of bookstores in Shanghai to reflect the dawn and decline of Chinese public space. She also has interests in forensic science and Indian novels in English. As a novelist and book reviewer, she is eager to build the common understanding on the novels of Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai and Arundhati Roy between the West and the Orient. With HistSciLib, she will show a more Humanistic Look at the science of history through forensic labs.
